Andrew Hustwaite + Antipode Danse Tanz

January 11 to 14, 2018. Marly Innovation Center, Villars-sur-Glâne, Switzerland

META is an interdisciplinary project linking dance to kinetic sculpture. This is a collaboration between  Antipode Danse Tanz and Australian artist Andrew Hustwaite. At the origin of this project is the work and personality of Swiss artist Jean Tinguely. META does not want to be tempted by functionality and aspires to create a poetic universe, borrowed from humor, taste of risk and human know-how where the performers as the works wobble on the verge of self-destruction while capturing a feeling of lightness and play. Andrew Hustwaite’s kinetic sculptures are transposed into space in several tetrahedral variations. They represent certain principles such as rotation, balance and resonance. The bodies of the dancers evolve in this unique universe by exploring both an organic tenderness and metallic hardness. META plays with a fun way the fascination for the controllable and the uncontrollable.

The machine allows me to be poetic. If we respect her, if we play with her, perhaps we can create a joyous machine – joyous in the sense of free.
